The West Dorset Three Peaks Walk is a challenging yet rewarding hike that takes you to the summits of three of Dorset’s most iconic peaks. Offering breath-taking views of the countryside, the Jurassic Coast, and charming villages, this walk showcases the natural beauty of the area.
The Peaks:
1. Colmers Hill – A hill with a distinctive shape, providing panoramic views of Dorset’s rolling hills and countryside.
2. Hardy’s Monument – A memorial dedicated to author Thomas Hardy, offering stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding area and coast.
3. Pilsdon Pen – The highest point in Dorset, where you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas of the landscape stretching out to the coastline.
The Route:
The walk covers around 10 miles (16 km), with a mix of woodlands, farmland, and country paths. Moderate in difficulty, it includes some steep climbs and rugged sections, but the reward is in the spectacular views from each peak. The walk typically takes 5–6 hours, including breaks.
Camping Plan:
We’re planning to camp at Hobby Farm Pitches in West Dorset from Friday evening to Sunday morning (27th-29th June). They allow fires so hopefully we can have a BBQ on Saturday.
The cost for a tent pitch is £22 for two people. It’s Ok for two single people with small tents to share a pitch. There are also 3 Shepherds Huts if anyone doesn’t want to camp.
You can find more details and make your reservation on the Hobby Farm Pitches website. There are only 14 spaces, so it is quite limited: https://westdorsetcamping.co.uk/hobby-farm-pitches/
Getting to the Start:
The walk starts at the Seatown Car Park, so we will need to drive there from the campsite on Saturday morning. It’s a short drive to the starting point, and from there, we’ll begin our adventure.
