Essential mountain sites:

British Mountaineering Council. Make sure you are properly insured and know what's what when out in the hills. It's great and we're members.

Scotland Avalanche Information Service. This site has excellent general information about avalanches, plus daily updated weather and avalanche danger reports for Scotland. Essential for anyone going to Scotland in the winter.

Munro Magic. What do you mean, you've never heard of a munro?! Find out all about Scotland's best mountains here.

MountainDays.net - Mountaineering & Rock climbing in the UK - Dedicated to mountaineering & rock climbing in the UK. Contains database of all mountains in UK plus climbing routes, gear, weather and comprehensive links directory.

Mount Everest: The British Story - A mine of information about British attempts and successes on Mount Everest, from the first expedition to those of today. Includes a comprehensive history, list of summiteers (including one NMC member), amazing facts, a gallery and much more.

Essential climbing sites:

Costa Blanca climbing. Useful info on one of the best (and easiest to get to) overseas climbing locations.

UKClimbing.com. Excellent info on news, crags, routes, shops.

Walkhigh Mountaineering. All sorts of good stuff, including a regular e:newsletter.

planetFear. More good climbing bits and bobs - you can go straight into the climbing bit by clicking here.

Essential biking sites:

Orange Mountain Bikes. Great site, great bikes, and British!

Mountain High. A Reading (OK, Pangbourne) shop with stacks of gear for bikers and snowboarders.

Noah's Ark. Bikes, boards, bootiful (alas not very close to Newbury, but worth a visit on the way to Forest of Dean).
