Lake District, 25-27 July

Trip organiser: Richard S

The July Lake District trip is to the Wythmoor Farm Camping Barn.

The cost will be a maximum of £18, dropping to £14 if we fill the barn. There is a maximum of 12 spaces. A £10 deposit is required for booking.

The intention, provided the weather is fine, is a long 12 hour walk on the Saturday taking in several summits and pubs along the way.

The barn accommodation is basic, but unlike the heaving Lakeland campsites is reserved exclusively for the use of NMC and does not close at 10pm. See http://www.lakelandcampingbarns.co.uk/barnview.asp?ID=15 - some of the information is reproduced below.

Description of Barn
Wythmoor is directly on the new Walney to Wear coast to coast cycle route, 47 miles from the start, and a few hundred metres from the Dales Way long distance footpath. It enjoys great views of the Howgill fells and the distant mountains of the central Lakes. The barn is approximately 4.5 miles from Kendal and less than 10 mins from M6 J37.

Facilities
It is a newly converted 19C barn with two upstairs sleeping platforms and two bed spaces downstairs. There are two toilets/shower rooms, one is fully disabled accessible. There is a large indoor communal cooking area and a separate dining area. Outside is a barbeque area. Hot water is provided free from solar panels, the barn has underfloor heating via a ground source heat pump and the electricity is from a wind turbine.

Directions
Take Appleby Road (A685) from Kendal.
After approximately 2.5 miles the road crosses the railway for the second time.
After 400m take the right-hand turn signposted ‘Docker’. The road becomes single track and crosses the railway again.
After 300m, opposite Docker Hall farm take the left fork signposted Lambrigg.
Follow the lane for approx 2 miles ignoring turns on left and right hand until you arrive at the barn on the left.
