The walk encompasses good variety, starting at Chilton Foliat, traverses a lovely stretch of the River Kennet, over the hill to Cobbs Farm Shop and café, then a section along the Kennet & Avon canal, followed by another Wiltshire hill (good views as you pass Cake Wood), past Littlecote House and back over the River Kennet. Worth the 8 mile walk for Cobbs sausage rolls alone!
Meet at 9.30 am at the lay-by as you leave Chilton Foliat on the B4192 towards Aldbourne (grid ref SU 316705). After passing St Mary’s Church on your right, the lay-by is about 100m after the final house on your left. There is space for at least 8 cars to park.
We could either have a coffee stop at Cobbs cafe or there is a nice spot on the canal to eat the sausage rolls and other treats from Cobbs with a wooden bench and the wooden steps of a little used footbridge over the canal adjacent to each other.
Chilis Indian in Newbury in the evening afterwards. The restaurant table is booked so please get in touch with Julie or Phil about both the walk attendance and evening meal attendance.
