Kicking off the first of the daywalk season, the plan is to head out to the Bedwyns for a pleasant country ramble and plenty of refreshments.
The route is fairly level with no less than 4 excellent pubs on it. We take in some lovely little local villages – Great Bedwyn, Little Bedwyn, Shalbourne, Wilton and Crofton – pass through the Bedwyn Brail (part of the ancient hunting forest of Savernake), head along part of the Kennet and Avon Canal, and take a shufty at Wilton Windmill and the Crofton Pump House with it’s two Cornish beam engines.
Make sure you’ve got a stout pair of boots – it’s not for the faint-hearted at 13 miles (but you can very easily shorten it to 9.5 miles).
We’ll probably get some food at one of the pubs, but bring drink/snacks.
If travelling by train, be at the station for 9.00am so we can organise groupsaver tickets! to Great Bedwyn. Train will depart at 9.15am. Trains back are regular (at least every hour).
If travelling by car meet us at the Wharf carpark in Great Bedwyn by the canal at 9.30am
Please let Sarah Roberts know if you plan to come along and we can make sure we don’t go without you!
