Peak District Camping

Date / Time
Date(s) - 24 May 2013 until 27 May 2013 All Day

The first camping trip of the year shall be at Middlehills Farm, Grangemill. Nr Matlock, DE4 4HY (01629 650368).

This was supposed to be a Club-lite trip, but as the availability for that weekend was dwindling I have provisionally reserved 4 pitches. Please let me know if you definitely want to come as soon as possible (if there are more than four then I should be able to get a few more pitches reserve). I will confirm numbers with him by 15th May. After that it will revert to a club-lite trip, where you can book direct. If you do book direct please let me know so we can keep an eye out for you on arrival.

The site is in a nice spot with some good walking and cycling on your doorstep (cycle hire is available in a number of locations). Waymarked trails include the Limestone Trail, Midshires Way (ex. Cromford – Buxton railway), Tissington Trail (ex Ashbourne – Buxton railway). A bit further afield there’s the Monsal Trail with it’s recently reopened tunnels. Water sports are available on Carsington Water and climbing is available on a number or local crags. For those not wanting to exert any energy there are a number of local cultural sites including Cromford Pumping Engine (should be running on the bank holiday), The National Tram Museum, Matlock Baths and it is Well Dressing season (http://www.derbyshireuk.net/derbyshire_welldressing2013.html) .

The site allows fires in fire pits (available to hire or we have our trusty (rusty?) bucket. There is a pub 500m from the site and numerous others within a mile or two. The site is also child friendly with a play area.

Being in the south east corner of the Peaks it is relatively easy to get to either from the M6 Toll or the M1.

Cost – £7/adult per night, £4 for children over 4.

Hopefully we can get a good sized group up and have a fun weekend.

Cheers, Pokey
