The National Trust, Beach Head bunkhouse, nestles between Newquay and Padstow, just off of the South West costal path.
Another lovely sunny trip to Cornwall, a month earlier than last year. Mark, Alan and Marion arrived early on Friday and settled in. Alan and Marion then had the mad idea to have a swim which they did in the nearby Porthcothan beach. The water was ‘lovely’ we were reliably told!
Saturday began with lovely sunshine and views out the kitchen window and everyone was keen to get out. The planned walk to Padstow was completed at around 4.00pm, in time for a rugby game in the pub. We were rewarded with stunning scenery and big skies along a great coastal path.
Most of us returned to the bunkhouse by taxi, except Belinda and Sue who got the bus to Newquay. They realised too late that the route didn’t actually pass the bunkhouse and got off at St. Eval, a few miles from the coast. Their powers of persuasion were good as the barmaid of the local pub/community centre gave them a lift back in time for dinner.
Sunday we walked north to Bedruthan steps, a short hour walk and back to the cars. Most people then intended to go home while Joanne, Steve, Alan, Mark and Marion went to a local pub to watch more rugby (Ireland v Argentina).
Next year, we’ll go somewhere new but the pull of that wonderful path might make it 3 in a row.
