Wildcamping Trip – Find the best weather
When – weekend of 8th to 10th July
What – The plan is to do a decent two day walk, with an overnight wild camp. We have not decided on a venue yet as wild camping is much more fun in good weather, so we thought we would make a last minute decision on where to go once we have seen the weather forecast. The rough plan will be to leave Newbury on the Friday evening, and stay in a bunkhouse or campsite near to the mountains (likely to be Snowdon, Brecon, Peak district or Lake district). We will then do a good walk on the Saturday (approx. 10 miles) carrying all of our kit, followed by a wild camp high up in the hills. We will then have a shorter walk on the Sunday (approx. 7 miles) to get back to civilisation, and jump in the cars back to Newbury. We will make the final decision on the Wednesday before the weekend. The walking will not be technical by nature (e.g. no scrambling).
The maximum number of people that will be able to attend this trip will be 8 people due to the need to keep the group size down for wild camping. I have currently got 6 confirmed attendees, so there are two spaces left. If you would like to attend, please can you confirm your interest before 20th June to Nick Piper.
Skill level – a decent level of fitness is required as we will be carrying tents / food etc. Experience of wild camping will be beneficial but not essential. We will need to take our own tents / stoves / sleeping bags / bed rolls etc, but if you are not sure if you have all the right kit, don’t panic, just drop me a note and we can probably find the kit we need from our members.
Costs – cost of accommodation for the Friday night will be between £10 and £20 per person depending on where we go and whether we camp or bunkhouse. We will look to car share to keep travel costs down. You will need to bring your own food for the weekend (suitable for wild camping).
Cheers
Nick
