Beginners Rock Climbing Weekend (Family Friendly)

Date / Time
Date(s) - 17 Aug 2018 until 19 Aug 2018 6:00 pm

This is a 2-day course designed for those with very little or no experience of climbing.

This is a family friendly trip and children can attend the climbing course as well (see note below).

Anyone in the club is also welcome to come along and do their own thing and stay with the group as lots of good walks nearby and pubs etc.

I’m planning on staying in Hope Valley and Hathersage area and the instructor recommended the campsite “Hardhurst Farm” as his favourite (cheap camping with good facilities and a 200m stroll to the Travellers Rest pub). There should also be plenty of accommodation options as well in the area.

Note: There are no limits on numbers as more instructors can be added as required…

Day 1
This will focus on fundamentals including rope work, belaying, basic knots, climbing communication, guidebook interpretation, safe use of equipment

Day 2
This will build on the skills learned including an abseiling session with the emphasis on learning through doing and there will be plenty of opportunity to try many rock climbs at different grades and difficulties putting the new skills to practise.

The course will take place at Hope Valley in the Peak District. We’ll probably be camping making use of the summer weather with plenty of pubs close by but there are lots of alternate accommodation options if required.

All safety equipment, harnesses, helmets and ropes are included although you will require your own suitable climbing footwear.

The cost of the course is £80 and transport to venue, accommodation, food and drink are in addition to this.

NOTE: The instructors can take children of ages from 6 upwards with parental supervision but may need to do a slightly watered down course for them. Therefore its easier to accommodate older children who should be able to share the same training and climbing as the adults and make organising the course easier.
