Lake District – Glenriding

Location: Gillside Camping and Caravan Park Ullswater, Gillside Farm, Glenridding, Penrith CA11 0QQ. www.gillsidecaravanandcampingsite.co.uk

Cost: Camping – £8 per night (adults), £2 (tent) & £1 (vehicle), they don’t take bookings as they work on a first come basis, this time of year should be relatively quiet, however, the first to arrive “reserves” an area for all tents!

Routes: Excellent access to Helvellyn and surrounding fells.

Possible Saturday route could be:

Helvellyn via Dollywagon Pike

Distance: 17.5km,

Time: 6 to 8 hours,

Total Ascent: 1,065m

Difficulty: Straightforward but steep ascent onto Hevellyn via Dollywagon Pike and coming down via Glenridding Common, no exposure or scrambling.

MMM: Dollywagon Pike 830m, High Crag 884m, Nethermost Pike 891m, Helvellyn 950m, Lower Man 925m, Whiteside Bank 863m giving a grand total of 5,343m!

Sunday we can have a play on either Striding or Swiral Edge!

Food/Pub Options: Glenridding is within walking distance with several pubs/cafes etc.
