For a complete change a few of us are thinking of going to the Galloway mountains – only about an hour further on from the Lakes, but much quieter and more remote. Also not far from the coast, including the Mull of Galloway – the southern most tip of Scotland.
We have a quirky cottage on hold which sleeps 8 – the price would be about £100 each for the week. It is right in the mountains in Glen Trool, with the main route up The Merrick (a Corbett and the highest hill in the area) from the door. It is also on the Southern Upland Way.
