Hermitage Evening Walk

Date / Time
Date(s) - 30 Mar 2021 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

To celebrate the beginning of the end of lockdown, Newbury Mountain Club is organising an evening walk on 30th March, from Hermitage to Hampstead Norreys and back.

Note: In order to comply with requirements as an organised sports club for outdoor groups over 6 people, this walk is only available to those with current NMC & BMC membership.

We will start from Hermitage Parish Hall at 5.30pm, and head for Hampstead Norreys via Eling, along footpaths and bridleways. We then return to Hermitage along the Eling Way (which follows the track of the redundant railway line). The total length is 8.7km, so we aim to finish before it gets dark (around 8pm, after clocks go forward).

How to get there

From Newbury, head for Hermitage along the B4009. Continue through the village then turn right at the mini roundabout as you leave, which is signposted for the Eling Way. The village hall car park is on the left after 100m. If this is full, you can park on the road outside.

How to join us

please complete the trip booking form here

Please bring a face mask (just in case there is an unplanned situation where we need to wear one) and anything else that you might need (e.g. first aid), as we should not share anything.

Legal stuff

This walk will take place under the exemption for organised outdoor sports gatherings in the regulations that come into force on 29th March (that is SI 2021/364, Schedule 1, Section 6 (2), if you are asked by a police officer). To comply with this, a risk assessment will be prepared and sent to you, and you are asked to familiarise yourself with it. In summary, there are no particular risks as long as you follow the Covid guidance (in particular, keeping a distance) and apply common sense.
