Backpacking Across the Northern Fells of the Lake District: 23 – 25 October

The Northern Fells are described as being as about away-from-it-all as it is possible to get in the Lake District, so there is no better way to explore this area than by wilderness camping in it.

The plan is to walk in from the car park beside the Blencathra Centre near Threlkeld (ref NY303257) and take the path up to Skiddaw House YH and then camp along the river a mile or 2 NE beyond here (approx. 3 miles total). We will be leaving Newbury early Friday morning and hope to be setting up camp early afternoon and then go off and do some Wainwrights – but it shouldn’t present too much of a challenge to be walking in to here in the dark following the Cumbria Way if you come later. Saturday will consist of Wainwrights and river valleys (as many or as few as you are able carrying all your kit), with the plan to camp by the lovely Bowscale Tarn, and then on Sunday finish with the ridge walk across Blencathra.

If you are interested in joining Alan and I then please have a chat with me – for a wilderness experience places are limited. We can take 2 or 3 folks with us in our car if you can get the Friday off work.

Note that if the weather forecast is dire we will not be going – the big advantage of wilderness camping is that there is no accommodation charge so last minute changes to plans can be made!
