Snowdonia (Bryn Gwynant) – The Khyber Pass

Date / Time
Date(s) - 6 Dec 2019 until 8 Dec 2019 All Day

Newbury Mountain Club Christmas Trip, Dec 6-8, 2019

The Khyber Pass

The notorious Khyber Pass is the trip of a lifetime. At the top of the Peshawar Valley, on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, it is a key point along the Silk Road, and the starting point for many an international adventure. Spectacular views and the chance to return with regional souvenirs like Kalashnikov rifles and poppy-derived products.

However, we’re visiting the Khyber Pass film set from that 1968 cinematic masterpiece: Carry On Up The Khyber. Far superior: not so far to go, and sheep are less troublesome than Taliban (we hope).

We are staying in a fantastic Victorian mansion, Bryn Gwynant – idyllically set in woodland on the shores of Llyn Gwynant.

It is under-going a £3M refit, which starts after our visit. God knows what state it’s in now, but at least we won’t have to deal with any new build teething problems.

Being December conditions are uncertain. We are planning a treasure hunt for the Saturday, taking in some of the lesser known parts of Wales’ highest peak, and maybe some surprises along the way. Think Adventure. But of course, you’re welcome to do your own thing.

Traditional Xmas dinner on the Saturday. Turducken is an option, if numbers are suitable.  Totally up for a vegetarian alternative if I can figure out enough vegetables that will fit inside each other.

There are a mere 72 beds in the Hostel. As accommodation is limited, we expect this trip to sell out fast. In all seriousness, there are some logistics involved, so please let me know as soon as possible if you’re interested, and put down your £20 deposits and complete the booking form.

Hope you can make it.
