Scotland, Cairngorms

Staying at: Lynaberack Lodge, Glen Tromie, near Kingussie

A once in a decade opportunity to enjoy a week in Scotland at its best, with the below freezing temperatures keeping the rain at bay, snow on the summits, and clear blue skies for a whole week!

We stayed at the wonderful Lynaberack Lodge, very secluded and reached via a 4 mile private dirt track, which once the frozen snow had thawed, Belinda nailed in 6.5 minutes in her 4WD! With beautiful views of the glen and surrounding mountains, and a herd of deer coming to graze in front of the landscape windows every evening, it was an idyllic setting. The hot baths, comfy sofas, and log fire were also very welcome after a hard day out on the hills!

The following munros were achieved by the group – in full winter conditions, most of which required the wearing of crampons:

Saturday: Schiehallion (3553ft) whilst David did a quick sprint up Ben Nevis (4409ft)
Sunday: A Chailleach (3051ft) and Carn Sgulain (3018ft) in the Monadhliath Mountains
Monday: Ben Macdui (4295ft) and Cairngorm (4085ft) from the bottom ski station
Tuesday: Sgor Gaoith (3668ft) from Glen Feshie
Wednesday: Stob Coire Easain (3661ft) and Stob a Choire Mheadhoin (3629ft) walking between Corrour and Tulloch railway stations – a major expedition! Belinda and Sue did Beinn na Lap (3074 ft) from Corrour
Thursday: too knackered to attempt a munro
Friday: Meall Chuaich (3120ft) from Glen Tromie
